Position Summary:

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh is seeking a Director of Hispanic Ministry to join St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Cary, NC.

The Director of Hispanic Ministry is a key member of the Pastor’s Leadership Team (PLT) and collaborates with the pastor and the Pastoral Associate to lead St. Michael the Archangel’s Hispanic Ministries in the areas of evangelization, discipleship, faith formation, sacramental preparation, ministry development, worship, and social outreach, including activities and events associated with these areas. Further, this leader will promote the integration of Hispanic Catholics into the total life of the parish and be especially supportive toward the meaningful integration of those with limited English language skills.

Key responsibilities:

Directing

  • Directs the bilingual formation programs for children, youth, and adults preparing to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. This includes supervision of students preparing to receive sacraments at St. Michael School in conjunction with School Administration and their classroom teachers, as well as RCIA for children, adults, and families, as well as Intermediate Sacramental Preparation (ISP) for children who have not yet received one or more of the sacraments of initiation at the prescribed age.
  • Under the direction of the Pastor, partners with and serves as the primary point of contact with the McGrath Institute for Church Life.
  • Leads and develops leadership skills among staff to create and administer their respective faith formation programs, and liturgy and worship ministries.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, selection and training of catechists and other volunteers working within the Faith Formation and Liturgy and Worship programs, and cultural programs.
  • Oversees various prayer groups, providing guidance and direction in keeping with Diocesan guidelines.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Director of Adult Evangelization and Formation to ensure that adult evangelization and faith formation programs uphold the mission of the parish, including with the Evangelical Catholic/Reach More program.
  • Aids in resolving disciplinary issues and making recommendations to the Pastor and Director of Faith Formation on students’ preparedness for the reception of sacraments.
  • Collaborates with the parish Marketing and Digital Evangelization Coordinator on all communications, including the parish website, social media, bulletins, and newsletters.

Program Development and Curricula Selection

  • Selects curricula, sets calendars, and plans events and activities (retreats, workshops, trips, etc.) for sacramental preparation.
  • Facilitates, evaluates, and approves curricula, events and activities for the staff and programs under their supervision.
  • Forms and equips parents to fulfill their role as the primary educators of their children.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Director of Adult Evangelization and Formation to discern which programs best meet the needs of the adult Hispanic community.

Liturgical and Cultural Celebrations

  • Coordinates rehearsals and celebrations for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation in conjunction with the Pastor and Director of Music and Liturgy.
  • Oversees the Sacrament of Matrimony preparations in collaboration with the marriage preparation leader of Hispanic Ministry and the Associate Director of Family Life.
  • Oversees the celebrations of quinceañeras.
  • Oversees and coordinates staff and volunteers involved with providing cultural formation experiences for the Hispanic community, such as an All Souls altar, Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration and devotional altar, and Las Posadas family activities.

Administration

  • Develops annual budgets and oversees expenditures for the Hispanic ministry budgets.
  • Ensures that all sacramental preparation paperwork is received from students, and that those responsible for sacramental records receive paperwork necessary for recording.
  • Ensures that all volunteers have received proper Safe Environment Training and certification and maintain recertification.

Training and Diocesan-wide activities

  • Attends ministry and formation, Raleigh Deanery, and diocesan meetings, as requested.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher in the field of theology, catechesis, or a related field; or possess an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of five years work experience in supervising staff and volunteers is required.
  • Must be an active, fully initiated, practicing Catholic, committed to the Church’s teaching and to living a life of intentional discipleship.
  • Strong abilities in project management and an ability to collaborate on team projects is required.
  • Required: Bilingual (Spanish/English).
  • Self-directed, with the ability to work independently to set and meet goals.
  • Demonstrated a successful collaborative style in parish or comparable settings.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are a must.
  • Ability to inspire a spirit of service in others, to rally, to inspire volunteers.
  • Ability to navigate and deescalate emotionally charged situations, e.g., with parents.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with families and others.
  • Familiarity with technology: MS Office, using A/V equipment and ability to become competent with the parish’s Realm database software.
  • Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing background and reference checks
  • Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training

Supervises:

  • Coordinator of Liturgy and Faith Formation for Hispanic Ministry.
  • Administrative Assistant for Hispanic Ministry.
  • Catechists and volunteers for faith formation classes and programs.

Position Start Date: Immediately.
