Middle School Religion Teacher

Position Summary:

Immaculata Catholic School in Durham, NC is seeking a Middle School Religion Teacher. The middle school religion teacher is responsible for the religious instruction of our middle school student body. Accordingly, this teacher must be called to serve in a unique catechetical role, that of guiding our brightest young minds and spirits to a rich spiritual relationship with God. To be successful in this critical mission, the middle school religion teacher must be capable of establishing positive, strong relationships with the middle school student population to then facilitate spiritual and religious formation in students. Furthermore, this teacher must be a person of particularly strong and passionate faith, capable of designing instruction and lessons that draw our students into a deeper relationship with our faith and the rich history and traditions of the Catholic church. 

Key responsibilities:

• Plan and execute middle school religion lessons based on the Diocese of Raleigh curriculum (Middle School, 6th-8th)
• Coordinate with Campus Minister to plan and execute school events including:
  • Weekly school mass, Friday Morning Prayer (Liturgical portion of school assembly), Service Projects, Middle School Retreat, Middle School Easter Pageant, Catholic Schools Week
• Coordinate and plan both curricular and extra-curricular activities with teacher teams at grade-level and division.
• Assess student performance and communicate clearly to students and parents.
• Organize and plan homeroom activities for students in a single homeroom

Minimum Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Theology or Religious Studies.
• At least 1 year of experience teaching in K-12 education.
• Employment is contingent upon applicant satisfactorily passing background and reference checks.
• Must complete diocese-sponsored Safe Environment Training.

Preferred Qualifications

• DOR Catechetical Certification
